Carioto competes in two events at ECAC outdoor championships
TROY, N.Y. – Kelly Carioto wrapped up the 2011-12 year for CUA on Friday, competing in two events at the ECAC outdoor championship, hosted by RPI. Carioto competed in the shot put and discus, finishing ninth in the shot and sixth in the discus.
In the shot put, Carioto registered a throw of 11.79 meters, which was good for ninth place in the field of 18 competitors. Kelley Allen of Tufts took first place with a throw of 13.16 meters.
In the discus, Carioto's throw of 40.02 meters placed her in sixth place out of 26 competitors. Sarah Timmons of Oneonta was the top finisher with a throw of 45.40 meters.
This concludes a terrific career for Carioto, who last month was named the Landmark Conference Female Field Athlete of the Meet at the outdoor championships. Carioto won both the shot put and discus at the event, with a throw of 38'11" in the shot and 124'6" in the discus.
Carioto finished her career with four indoor shotput conference championships, two outdoor shotput titles and one discus championship. She also won the 2011 ECAC indoor shotput title, making the first CUA athlete in over a decade to win an ECAC track championship.
