Mayfield and Carioto collect two more awards from conference

WASHINGTON – After earning two of the four major awards at this year's Landmark Conference outdoor championships, Camelia Mayfield and Kelly Carioto were rewarded on Monday by being named the conference's Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Mayfield had a terrific weekend for CUA at the championships, earning Track Athlete of the Meet honors.  The native of Oregon took first in two events, including the 10,000 meters and 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Mayfield's time of 38:32.72 in the 10,000 was a championship meet record and put her in front of 15 other competitors.  Mayfield earned her second title with a time of 11:31.15 in the 3,000 steeplechase.

Carioto was named the Field Athlete of the Meet after also winning two championships.  The senior won the shot put with a throw of 38'11 ¾", which was over two feet further than the second place finisher.  Carioto then added a second championship in the discus, registering a throw of 124'6" to defeat 15 other competitors.

Carioto has now won the outdoor shot put championship twice, in addition to her four indoor titles.  The discus championship was the first of Carioto's storied career.
