Landmark Conference names Mayfield Track Athlete of the Week
WASHINGTON – After racing her way to a first place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Messiah College Invitational on Saturday, Camelia Mayfield was named the Landmark Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week on Monday. Mayfield won the race by more than 14 seconds.
Mayfield's time of 11:48.55 placed her atop the leader board in a race of 10 competitors. She was one of four Cardinals to earn first place finishes on Saturday, joining Laura Kinley (800-meters), Kelly Carioto (shot put, discus) and Mary Clark (hammer).
Earlier this outdoor season, Mayfield placed third in the steeplechase at the Jim Taylor Invitational, and she won the 10,000-meters at the Battleground Relays.
Mayfield and the Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, April 21 when they travel to the Gettysburg Invitational for their final tune-up prior to next week's conference championship. Action gets underway beginning at 9 a.m.
