CUA opens outdoor season at Battleground Relays

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – CUA had a strong start to the outdoor season this weekend, competing at the Battleground Relays on Friday and Saturday.  The Cardinal men and women put together a number of impressive performances in both the track and field events.

On the women's side in the 4x100 relay, CUA A placed third, crossing in 53.43 seconds, while CUA B finished fifth (1:02.79).  CUA A then placed fifth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:27.46.

Laura Kinley crossed in 12th place in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:29.85 while Corine Dolan was 20th (5:48.82).

Camelia Mayfield was the lone competitor in the 10,000 meters and she finished in 41:36.31.

In the field events, CUA assistant coach Kim Stengle won the hammer throw with a throw of 139'8", with Kelly Carioto in second (138'8"), Mary Clark in third (129'10") and Kailia DeFalco in seventh (96'5"). 

Carioto and Clark also competed in the discus, finishing second and eighth, respectively.

Hannah Gillis placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 14'9 ¼" and Courtney Doran came in third in the high jump (4'11").

In men's action, Joe Quigley crossed in third place in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 59.06 seconds, with Nick Pavia placing ninth in 1:04.48.

Michael Spielberger finished ninth in the 1500 meters, crossing in 4:19.61, while George Brewer was 18th (4:23.94), Dylan Jones 20th (4:28.83), Kian Olia 23rd (4:32.41), Kyle McKenna 30th (4:43.25), and Michael Kennedy 32nd (4:47.72).

In relay action, the 1600 sprint medley team came in fourth, posting a time of 3:52.28.

In the field events, Sean Brubaker placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 136'5" and Pete Schramm came in sixth in the javelin (112'2").  Schramm also finished fourth in the shot put (37'2 ½").

CUA returns to action on Saturday, March 31 when the Cardinals travel to Pennsylvania to compete at the Susquehanna Invitational.  Action begins at 9 a.m.
