CUA competes at Gettysburg Invite in final tune-up for champs

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – CUA had its final tune-up prior to next week's conference championships on Saturday, with the Cardinals traveling to the Gettysburg Invite.  CUA finished fifth in the nine-school event, bolstered by first place finishes from Laura Kinley and Kelly Carioto.

CUA finished in fifth place with 83 points, while Gettysburg claimed the top spot with 157 points.  Millersville was second (101), followed by Mary Washington (100) and Dickinson (96).

Kinley won the mile with a time of 5:25.05, while Keely Eckberg was tenth, finishing in 5:42.61.  Kinley later finished third in the 5000 meters, crossing in 19:59.32.

In the 800 meters, Maria Docal came in eighth with a time of 2:33.92, while Eckberg was 12th after finishing in 2:37.41 and Kinley finished 14th (2:38.55).  In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Grace Lally crossed in fourth place with a time of 13:52.05.

In the field events, Carioto took first in the shot put with a throw of 11.31 meters, and in the discus, with a throw of 36.79 meters.  Mary Clark was fourth in the shot put (10.41 meters), Kerri Hanley was seventh (9.91 meters) and Kaila DeFalco was 14th (8.14 meters).

Clark finished fifth in the discus (28.5 meters), while Carioto (39.43 meters), Clark (37.66 meters) and DeFalco (34.24 meters) placed three-four-five in the hammer.

Also in the field events, Courtney Doran cleared 1.57 meters in the high jump to place third.

CUA will be back in action next Saturday, April 28 when the Cardinals travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the 2012 Landmark Conference championship.  The two-day event wraps up on the 29th.
