Strong performances highlight outdoor season opener
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – CUA opened its outdoor season on Saturday afternoon and there were a number of strong performances at the Battleground Relays. Laura Kinley won the 1500 and Mary Clark took 1st in the hammer, while Keely Eckberg posted a PR in the 5000.
Kinley won the 1500 with a time of 4:55.54, and in the 5000, Eckberg crossed in 2nd place in a time of 18:22.13, besting her PR by 39 seconds. Erin Schlegel placed 9th in the event, finishing in 21:16.63.
In the 100 meters, Grace Weaver placed 4th (13.30) and Bridget Krumholz finished 6th (13.49), while in the 100 meter hurdles, Maria Dextra Cercos finished 6th, crossing in 17.03 seconds
Hannah Gillis posted a 4th place finish in the 400 hurdles, crossing in 1:15.63
In the relay events, the Cardinals finished 3rd in the 4 x 100, with a time of 53.35, and 2nd in the 800 sprint medley (1:58.36).
In the field events, Clark won the hammer throw with a toss of 135', while Kaila DeFalco finished 5th (100' 9") and Megan Ross placed 7th (99' 3").
Ross also competed in the javelin, finishing 4th with a throw of 77' 4".
CUA returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when the Cardinals travel to the Goucher College Invite. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
