CUA gets off to strong start at outdoor championships with two titles
TOWSON, Md. – CUA got off to a terrific start at the 2013 Landmark Conference outdoor championships on Saturday. Laura Kinley won the 1500 meters and set a new championship meet record in the process, while Mary Clark won the hammer throw title. Following six events, the Cardinals sit in second place with 48 points.
Kinley set a championship meet and stadium record with her time of 4:42.25 in the 1500 meters. The victory came against one of the toughest fields of competitors at the entire championship and set the meet record by nearly five full seconds. Kinley also won the 1500 outdoor title as a freshman.
Clark took the title in the hammer with a throw of 43.37 meters, and she added a 3rd place finish in the javelin, with a toss of 30.87 meters.
CUA took two of the top three spots in the 10,000 meters, with Keely Eckberg crossing in a time of 39:27.41 to place 2nd, and Rebecca Radcliffe earning a 3rd place finish in 40:14.90.
Christine Burias earned a 6th place finish in the pole vault by clearing 2.74 meters, while Megan Ross (35.16 meters) and Kaila DeFalco (33.31 meters) finished in 9th and 10th place, respectively, in the hammer.
Moravian currently leads the team standings with 93 points, followed by CUA with 48, Susquehanna with 42 and Juniata with 33. Merchant Marine Academy (15) and Goucher (3) round out the standings.
The championships wrap up on Sunday, with action getting underway at 11 a.m.
