Catholic Takes Fifth Place at Messiah Invitational

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's track & field team scored 76.66 points at the Messiah College Invitational to take home fifth place at the event.

Mary Paige Nesfeder earned a first place finish for the Cardinals, winning the Discus with a throw of 34.35 meters and grabbing 10 points for CUA.

In the High Jump, Nesfeder and Courtney Doran finished in a three way tie for eighth by clearing the bar at 1.37 meters to secure .33 points each.

Kaila DeFalco picked up four points with a fifth place finish in the Hammer Throw on a 33.24 meter toss. Christine Burias also earned four points for the Cardinals by clearing the bar at 2.65 meters in the Pole Vault for fifth place.

Maria Dextra Cercos finished fifth in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles to add four points for each event.

Catholic earned 17 points in the 10,000 meter run as Erin Schlegel finished second with a time of 42:23.64 for eight points followed by Rebecca Radcliffe in third with a 43:16.56 time for six points. Cristina Butrico came in sixth to grab three more points, crossing the finish line in 45:56.81.

Catherine Kitz tallied 11 points in two events. She finished third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:49.03 and fourth in the 1500 meter run with a 5:11.82 time.

Brianna Navarro edged teammate Kristen Rayfield for one point in the 800 meter run. Navarro finished in 2:41.01 for eighth place, while Rayfield was ninth with a 2:41.13 performance.

In the 200 and 400 meter dash, Danielle Caruccio finished second, to earn 16 points for the Cardinals. She ran a 59.59 time in the 400, while posting a 26.49 time in the 200. Bridget Krumholz finished fourth in the 400 with a 60.93 time to add five more points.

Catholic has one final event before the Landmark Championships, and will travel to the University of Pennsylvania for the Penn Relays on April 23-24.
