Galeano Earns All-Region Honors; Qualifies For NCAA Championship

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's field standout Andrea Galeano is headed to the 2017 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship. The sophomore was tabbed to an All-South/Southeast Region selection and currently ranks ninth in the country in the weight throw. She now heads to Nationals just outside Chicago in Naperville, Ill., this Friday, March 10.

Galeano was recognized as one top-five throwers in the South/Southeast Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches (Association USTFCCCA).

The top 17 marks in each track & field event qualified to for the compete among the nation's best. Thanks to her Landmark Conference-wining toss last week, Galeano will have a chance to go toe-to-toe with the top performers.

Galeano set both program and conference records with midseason throws approaching 16 meters and then exploded for a toss of 17.98 meters at the league championship. The mark seeds her ninth overall and just 0.03 meters back of seventh.

The second-year thrower is the youngest competitor in the field as the only sophomore and underclassman to advance to Nationals. There are also just five juniors set to compete at the event.

Live results for the weight throw are available which will start at 10 a.m., on Friday.
