Fredericksburg, Va. – The Catholic University of America women's track & field team began its outdoor season on Saturday as the Cardinals competed at the Mary Washington Opener.
Fresh off her Indoor Nationals appearance in the weight throw, sophomore thrower Andrea Galeano switched up events in her first outdoor meet and was victorious in the hammer throw as she out-threw the field by nearly seven meters at 44.91. Galeano also finished second overall in the shot put with a mark of 10.46 meters and took seventh in the discus at 26.46.
Senior sprinter Danielle Caruccio showed her speed as she took second overall in the 400-meter dash as she crossed the finish line in 1:01.10. Caruccio added a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.32.
The Cards also got a finals performance in the 100-meter dash as Grace Boras took sixth with a time of 13.67. Boras also finished eighth in the 200 at 28.83.
Junior Erin McNulty also cracked the top-10 twice as she placed fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:22.04 and then took eighth in the 800 at 2:44.15.
Junior Kiera Lyons added a top-five finish as she went for a time of 19:45.40 in the 5,000, good for fourth overall.
Rookie thrower Gabby Tomasura had a strong first outdoor meet as she placed third in the javelin with at 30.09 meters and added a fifth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 27.56 meters.
Next up, the Cardinals will head to Towson, Md., to compete at the Goucher Invitational on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
