WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's track & field team took on a strong field at the Messiah Invitational and was led by junior Kiera Lyons who was victorious in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Lyons beat her seed time by nearly 14 seconds as she held off Elizabethtown's Brenna McNamee by just over a second-and-a-half with a time 12:01.74.
Sophomore Andrea Galeano put forth a strong performance as she took second overall in the hammer throw with a toss 43.94 meters.
Her classmate Brenna Coppola was also in the top-10 as she registered a throw of 35.93 meters for the 10th overall.
Catholic's final top-10 performance came from rookie sprinter Grace Boras who was 10th with a time of 13.45 seconds in the 100-meter dash.
The Cardinals will get a two-week break with Easter Sunday next week before going cross-town to Gallaudet for the Bison Invitational on Saturday, April 22, the final tuneup before the Landmark Championships.
