CUA Captures Five Firsts at LVCI


LEBANON, Pa.- The Catholic University women's track and field squad had a successful day at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational on Saturday.  The Cards brought home five first place finishes on the afternoon.

Distance and middle distance proved to be CUA's strong point on Saturday.  Jenna Hackett placed first in the 5000 running a 19:51.5.  Mary Shashaty took first in the 1600 with a time of 5:44.6 and also was a part of the second place 4x400 relay that ran a 4:31.6.  The Cards had three other second place finishes including Angela Montanio (1,600m, 6:02.2), Noel Burns (400m, 66.2) and Kelly Szal (55m hurdles, 9.6).

CUA dominated in field events with senior captain Kim Stengle leading the way.  Stengle took first in the weight throw with a 43-06 which qualified her for the ECAC Championship and in the shot put throwing a 33-01.  Kristen Kennedy also notched a first in the high jump making 4'10".  Szal brought home two second place finishes in the field with a 14-11 in the long jump and a 31-1 in the triple jump.

CUA will be back in Pennsylvania next weekend competing at Ursinus.
