Cards Places 15th at Ursinus
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The Catholic University women's track and field squad took 15th at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College on Saturday. The team scored eight points in the meet that featured over 30 squads including many Division I participants.
Senior Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) had the best performance of the day taking fourth in the shot put with a 36-4.25 making her the best out of all the D-III colleges. Kelly Szal (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) placed 13th in the triple jump (30-9.75) and 19th in the long jump (13-10.5) to come in as CUA's second best field performer. In the long jump Kristen Kennedy (Great Falls, Va./Kolbe Academy) and Kristen Johnson (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) rounded out the event placing 20th and 22nd respectively with a 13-8.5 and 13-3.
The Cardinal distance squad continued to run well with sophomore Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) leading the way. Shashaty took tenth in the 1600 with a time of 5:35.0 and was also part of the sixth place 4x400 relay team which ran a 4:26.2. Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) took 11th in the 3000 with a 11:12.10 as well as 14th in the 1000 running to a 3:29.29.
CUA will compete next Friday at the Susquehanna Invitational.
