Cards Take Top Spots at Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Catholic University women's track and field team competed at the Susquehanna Invitational Friday evening. Although the meet was unscored, the Cardinals put on a good display placing nine runners in the top ten of their respective events.
Kelly Szal (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) placed in the top ten in three events. She was fifth in the 55 meter with an 8.08 and placed seventh and ninth in the long (15-02.25) and triple (31-00.00) jumps. Kristen Kennedy (Great Falls, Va./Kolbe Academy) also competed in the field events taking eighth in the high jump with a 4-07.75 and 12th in the long jump making 14-03.00.
Other strong performances on the track included Noel Burns (Cold Spring, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) in the 400 with a 1:04.62 and Annie George (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) in the 55 meters running an 8.16. Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) ran well in the distance races taking seventh in the mile (5:33.50) and ninth in the 5,000 (19:25.25).
On Saturday senior Kim Stengle (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) competed by herself at the Widner Invitational. She won the weight throw with a 13.80m and came in third in the shot put throwing a 10.48m.
The Cards will run at the Mason Dixon Conference Championships next weekend marking one of the biggest weekends of the indoor season.
