Hackett and Cheatle each win an event


FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Catholic University women's track and field squad had a solid day at the University of Mary Washington Saturday as they competed in the Battleground Relays  The women's squad had two first place winners at the unscored meet.

Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stevens) won the 10,000 meters to lead the Cardinals in a time of 41:19.60.  Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) was the other winner for CUA taking the top spot in the 5,000 meters running a 19:36.50.  Hackett also placed second in the 3,000 meters clocking in at 11:31.09.  Hurdler Rachel Won (Kaneohe, Hi./'Iolani School) was second in the 400 meter hurdles with a 1:10.20 and Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) rounded out the top three finishers running a 5:20.98 in the 1,500.

In the field events, Won had the best performance of the day with a third place in the javelin throwing it 27.83 meters.  Kelly Szal (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) took fifth in the same event with a 26.64. 

The Cardinals will have a week off before going to the Messiah College Invitational on April 12.
