Ball and Cheatle Win at Landmark Championship
CUA places third overall
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Catholic University women's track and field team took third at the Landmark Conference Track and Field Championship Sunday in Pennsylvania. The Cardinals scored 92 points overall for the third position in the six-team championship.
The Cardinals were led by the distance runners as CUA picked up a pair of conference titles. Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) had the best performance of the day winning the 800 in a time of 2:21.74 for first team all-conference honors, she was also second team All-Landmark with the two spot in the 1,500 meters running a 4:53.34. Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stevens) also had a solid day winning the 10,000 meters with a 39:52.46 for a spot on the first team. Cheatle then finished third in the 5,000 meters running an 18:59.88. Also earning all-conference honors was junior Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) who was second in the 5,000 with a 18:43.48.
In the field events, Nwakaego Ekwuabu Jericho, Vt./Mt. Mansfield Union) had the best performance of the day placing third in the shot put tossing it 9.78 meters.
Moravian College won the event with 307.5 points on the day. The majority of the team has now completed their season with the exception of a few athletes who have qualified for the ECAC Championship.
