Women Track and Field Comes Close but Finishes 2nd at the LVC Invitational

ANNVILLE, Pa.-- CUA Women's Track and Field Team placed 2nd out of 7 teams with 131 points at the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Saturday. Lebanon Valley College won the meet with 140 points.

The CUA women's track and field team was very competitive throughout the meet.  With Jr. Remy Ball winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:31, followed by Freshmen Katie Sacker in 6th place.  In the mile run senior captains Mary Shashaty and Jenna Hackett placed 5th and 6th while in the 3000 meter run the Hackett took the top spot and Mary Shashaty took the 2nd.

The sprint team for the cardinals was also able to show its strength by placing in a number of events. Senior Captain Annie George and Freshmen Melanie Mulkem placed fourth and sixth places, respectively in the 55 meter dash while switching places in the 200 meter dash to earn 10 points for the team.  Also in the 400 meter dash the Cardinals took home second through fourth place with senior captain Kristen Kennedy, Soph. Rachel Won, and Jr. Kristen Johnson showing there speed.  Kelly Szal also had an outstanding day by taking 2nd place in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.8 seconds

In the field events Kristen Kennedy was the top finisher by winning the high jump with a jump of 4'8''. Junior Kelly Szal placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. The throwing events were lead by the conference-leading freshman in the shot put, Kelly Carioto, who placed fourth in the shot put and fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 34'8''. The relays dominated the day by placing 2nd in the 4x200 meters and taking the top three spots in the 4x400 meters relay.

The team showed great determination this past weekend and nearly won the meet.  The team is looking forward to this weekend which is a conference meet at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.  There will be many teams there with great competition and it will be the last time they will visit the track before the conference championship meet which will take place there later in month.  This is a very important meet for the team and the Cardinals will look take full advantage of the competition.
