Women's Track Finishes 3rd at Landmark Conferece Championships
TOWNSON, Md.- The CUA women's track and field team earned a third place finish at the Landmark Conference Championships Saturday afternoon, wracking up a total of 139 points at the meet. The squad had a number of strong performances in each of the events, including a pair of event winners at the meet.
Highlighting the afternoon's performances was thrower Kelly Carioto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), who won conquered the women's shot put with a toss of 12.09m. She also finished second in the discus, earning 8 points for her 35.75m throw. The freshman also earned Female Field Athlete of the Year in the Landmark Conference for her impressive performances throughout the season.
Also finishing first in her event was Kristen Kennedy (Great falls, Va./Kolbe Academy). Kennedy finished atop the Heptathalon with 3298 points. She also earned sixth in the women's 100 meter hurdles, and helped the Cards earn a third place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) earned a top finish on Day One for CUA by finishing the 10000 meter in 40:06.51. Four Cardinals also added second place finishes in the highly competitive meet. Rachel Won (Kaneohe, Hi./'Iolani School) wracked up 3264 points in the Heptathalon, while teammate Katie Sacker (Catonville, Md) finished the 3000 Steeplechase in 12:21.08. Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) finished the 800 meter run in 2:18.42, while Hackett earned a time of 19:10.57 in the 5000 meter run.
The relay team of Kennedy, Annie George, Suzanna Dawyot, and Melanie Mulkern earned a third place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay. Ball also earned third place in the women's 1500 meter relay.
