Women's Track Shines at Goucher Invitational


BALTIMORE, Md.- The CUA women's track team earned a second place finish with an overall score of 135.50 at the Goucher Invitational Saturday afternoon. The squad earned four first place, six second place, and one third place finish at the 12-team meet.

Among the top finishers on the afternoon were Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins), Katie Sacker (Catonville, Md.), Kristen Kennedy (Great falls, Va./Kolbe Academy), and Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood). Hacket ran the 10000 meter run in a time of 40:24.95, while Kennedy finished the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:52.10 and the 400 meter hurdles in 1:11.05. Shashaty rounded out the first place finishers by running the 3000 meter run in 11:37.96.

Kelly Carioto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) added two second place finishes for the Red and Black in the shot put (10.89m) and discuss throw (29.42m). Rachel Won (Kaneohe, Hi./'Iolani School) earned 8 points for the squad with a time of 1:11.86 in the 400 meter hurdles. Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) finished second in the 800 meter run in 2:28.26, while teammate Bridgette Smith (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) ran the 10000 meter run in 46:52.61.

The squad earned a second place finish in the 4x400 meter run with a time of 4:21.42. Finishing the 5000 meter run with a third place finish for the Cards was Sacker (19:43.12).

CUA will return to the field on April 18th for the Messiah College Invitational at 10 a.m.
