Carioto named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
WASHINGTON – Following a terrific 2010-11 season on the track, Kelly Carioto has now been rewarded for the work she did in the classroom. The rising senior has been named to the NCAA Division III All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). To qualify for this honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark in an individual or relay event.
A history major with a GPA of 3.94, Carioto had an outstanding year for the Cardinals. She won the 2011 Landmark Conference and ECAC indoor shot put championships, becoming the first female student-athlete at CUA in over a decade to capture an ECAC championship.
In addition to winning those two championships, Carioto also won the shot put title at the Lebanon Valley Invite and the Dickinson Invite and she placed fifth at the Frank Colden Invite.
A native of Pittsburgh, Carioto was named the Landmark Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week on two occasions and she placed second in the shot put at the conference outdoor championships. She then went on to compete at the ECAC outdoor championships where she placed sixth in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Carioto is a three-time All-Landmark Conference selection, a multi-year member of the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll and she was named to the 2011 Landmark Conference Winter All-Academic Team. Carioto also earned Academic All-District accolades in early June from CoSIDA.
