Carioto wraps up season with strong finish at ECAC champs

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – CUA sent one student-athlete to the 2011 ECAC Outdoor championships on Thursday and Friday, which took place on the campus of Moravian College.  In the shot put Kelly Carioto placed sixth out of 21 competitors with a throw of 40' 2 ¾" and in the discus she came in fourth with a throw of 128'10".

Carioto's sixth place finish in the shot put earned CUA eight points in the team standings.  Ronke Oyekunle of Tufts won the individual championship with a throw of 43'5". 

The CUA junior's fourth place showing in the discus was good for five more points in the team scoring.  Tufts again produced the individual champion, this time with Kelly Allen earning the crown with a throw of 146'9".

Ithaca captured the women's team crown with 80.5 points, followed by MIT (77.5), Tufts (54), Cortland State (42) and Williams (36) to round out the top-five.

For Carioto this wraps up a great academic year in which she captured the Landmark Conference and ECAC indoor shot put championships, won the event at the Lebanon Valley Invite and placed fifth in the event at the Frank Colden Invite.  She was named the Landmark Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week on two occasions and placed second in the shot put at the conference outdoor championship.
