CUA competes at tough Vince Brown Invite
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The CUA women’s indoor track and
field team took part in the highly competitive Vince Brown Invite
on Saturday on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
Freshman Camelia Mayfield had the top track finish for CUA as she
crossed in sixth place in the 5000 with a time of 19:12.60, while
Kelly Carioto was the top field finisher, placing sixth in the shot
put with a throw of 39’1 ¾”.
The Cardinals faced a talented field, which featured a number of
Division I student-athletes.
Laura Kinley placed 14th in the 800 as she posted a time of
2:26.91 and in the one mile run Kathryn Sacker came in 20th place
with a time of 5:34.86.
Ali Nelson competed in the 60, where she came in 18th in the
prelims with a time of 8.55 seconds. She later finished 24th in the
200, crossing in a time of 27.86.
Melanie Mulkern (25th) and Meghan McGovern (30th) also competed in
the 60-meter dash.
Next weekend CUA will travel to compete at the Dickinson
Invitational on February 19. Action gets underway at 10
a.m.
