Cardinals go undefeated at CUA Invitational

WASHINGTON- It was a great weekend for the CUA volleyball team as the Cardinals hosted the 13th Annual CUA Guetle Invitational going 4-0 in matches and 12-0 in games. Other teams in the tournament were Finlandia University, Eastern Mennonite, Bridgewater College, and Frostburg State University.

CUA's first match was against Finlandia on Friday afternoon. Leading the Cardinals was Katie Chefalas as she totaled four digs, 11 kills, and one ace, as well as Isabel Eberstadt who registered ten kills and eight digs. CUA won all three games going 3-0 in the match.

CUA downed Eastern Mennonite in the second match of the tournament going once again 3-0.  Kelly Crimmins led CUA with a total of five kills, one assist, one dig, and five blocks on the night.  Michaela Carroll also had a great night with 25 assists, nine digs, and one kill.

Going into the second day of the tournament CUA continued to dominate beating Bridgewater 3-0.

Their fourth and final match of the tournament was against Frostburg State. CUA once again won all three games beating Frostburg 3-0. CUA's Claudia Jean led the Cardinals with 13 kills and 19 digs.  Bridget Kulesh also had a great match earning nine kills, two digs, and two blocks totaling ten points.

CUA's Carroll was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and Jean and Chefalas made the All-Tournament team.  Other team members included Amber Winterling (FSU), Sabrina Winterling (FSU), Tabitha Bowman (EMU), and Katie Baker (BU).

The Cardinals will get right back to work on Tuesday, September 13 as they head to Maryland to face McDaniel College. The match is set to begin at 7p.m.
