WASHINGTON- The Catholic University volleyball team was selected third in the 2011 Landmark Conference preseason poll that was announced on Thursday. The Cardinals received 43 points in the poll, which is voted upon by head women’s volleyball coaches and sports information directors at each institution. Defending conference champions Juniata College captured the number one spot with 60 points.
In 2010, CUA went 20-14 overall and 4-2 within the Landmark Conference, their third 20-win season in the last four years. At the end of the season, CUA’s Claudia Jean and Kristina Purcell were named to the All-Landmark Conference Team. Jean received first team recognition and led the conference in kills with 427. Purcell was honored with her second straight selection to the second team and led the league in digs per game with an average of 5.69.
Head Coach Nagy Abdelrazek brings back the entire squad from last year including All-Conference performers Jean and Purcell.
Following Juniata and CUA in the poll were Susquehanna (45), Moravian (32), Scranton (22), Goucher (19), and Merchant Marine (10).
