CUA rallies from 2-0 deficit, downs Bison 3-2 on Senior Night

WASHINGTON – CUA closed out its regular season home schedule with an exciting 3-2 win over Gallaudet on Senior Night on Wednesday.  After dropping the first two sets, the Cardinals rallied to win three straight capped off by a 15-6 victory in game number-five.  With the win CUA improves to 22-6 overall.

Gallaudet took the first two games by identical 25-21 scores, but CUA battled back to win game three 25-15.  In game four the Cardinals came out on top 25-21 before closing it out in game five 15-6.

Bridget Kulesh and Claudia Jean led CUA with 12 kills apiece, while Katie Chefalas added eight and Molly Owens totaled six. 

Kristina Purcell and Isabel Eberstadt led the Cardinals with 24 digs apiece, while Jean added 13.  Chefalas and Katrina Baccetti registered nine digs apiece and Bridget Kulesh notched three blocks.

Lucia Irazabal handed out a team-high 25 assists, while Ines Zanotti totaled 10.

For Gallaudet, Kali Frowick registered 19 digs, while Sarah Tubert handed out 33 assists and Ann Whited led the team with 12 kills.

Prior to the match CUA honored its three seniors, Katrina Baccetti, Michaela Carroll and Molly Owens.  With that trio leading the way the Cardinals have won 74 matches over the last four seasons and qualified for three Landmark Conference Tournaments.

CUA hits the road this weekend when the Cardinals travel to the campus of Messiah College for four matches. CUA will take on Messiah on Friday evening at 5 p.m. and Penn State-Harrisburg at 7, and then on Saturday, the Cardinals will face Roanoke at 12:30 and FDU-Florham at 2:30.
