CUA finishes up action in Va. with a pair of sweeps

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Cardinals swept their two matches to complete action at the Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  CUA defeated Mary Baldwin and Philadelphia Biblical by identical 3-0 scores to finish the weekend 3-1 on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University.

CUA breezed by Mary Baldwin in straight sets, winning 25-12, 25-9 and 25-17.  Later in the day the Cardinals scored a 3-0 win over Philadelphia Biblical by scores of 25-22, 25-9, 25-10.

In the win over Mary Baldwin, Michaela Carroll handed out 22 assists and added 10 digs, while Claudia Jean registered 11 digs and seven kills.  Kelly Crimmins notched six kills and a team-high three blocks.

Later in the day vs. Philadelphia Biblical Katie Chefalas led the way with 17 kills and added 14 digs, while Kristina Purcell registered 27 digs.  Jean totaled nine kills and 17 digs and Carroll dished out 32 assists.

Following completion of the tournament, Purcell earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

CUA will return to action on Friday, September 9 when the Cardinals host the CUA Guetle Invitational inside the DuFour Center.  First up for CUA is a matchup with Finlandia at 3 p.m. followed by a match with Eastern Mennonite at 6.
