CUA completes unbeaten opening weekend of conference play

TOWSON, Md. – With a 3-0 sweep of Goucher on Sunday, CUA completed the first weekend of Landmark Conference action unbeaten.  The Cardinals and Juniata sit atop the standings at 3-0 with the second and final conference weekend scheduled for October 13-14.

CUA earned its 10th sweep of the year on Sunday, defeating the Gophers by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21.

Claudia Jean registered her third double-double of the weekend with 21 digs and 11 kills for CUA, while Bridget Kulesh finished with 15 digs and nine kills, and Kelly Crimmins added eight kills and three blocks.

Katie Chefalas (18) and Kristina Purcell (17) both finished with double-digit digs, and Mariana Cruz handed out 32 assists.

Goucher's Tori Rain finished with four kills and eight digs, while Ashley Fan registered 21 digs, and Meghan Chalk and Ilana Schear both totaled 12 digs.

CUA is back in action on Friday, October 5 when the Cardinals play host to Gwynedd-Mercy.  Start time is set for 7 p.m. and live video will be shown on cuacardinals.com.
