CUA wraps up action at Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament

TOWSON, Md. – CUA wrapped up action at the Greg "Gio" Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament on Sunday by splitting two matches on the campus of Goucher College.  The Cardinals swept Brockport 3-0 in their first match, before falling by the same 3-0 score to Hiram in the nightcap.

CUA got its day going early this morning with a 3-0 sweep of Brockport.  The Cardinals won the games 25-18, 25-5 and 25-16.  Freshmen Mariana Cruz (17) and Fallon Foster (8) combined for 25 assists for the Cardinals, while Kristina Purcell (14) and Katie Chefalas (12) both registered double-digit digs.

Claudia Jean led the team with seven kills, with Kelly Crimmins next in line with six.

In the second match of the day, Hiram defeated CUA 3-0 in the third place match.  Game scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22.  Cruz (11) and Foster (10) again were in double figures in assists, while Chefalas totaled eight kills and 11 digs.

Purcell finished with 12 digs and Jean added six kills.

Following the day's action, Purcell was named to the All-Tournament Team.

CUA is back in action on Friday, September 7 when the Cardinals host a pair of matches at the CUA Invitational.  The Cardinals will take on Randolph at 3 p.m. and Methodist at 6.
