Cardinals sweep Griffins for fifth straight win

WASHINGTON – CUA made quick work of Gwynedd-Mercy on Friday evening, sweeping the Griffins 3-0.  The win is the Cardinals fifth straight and improves them to 14-5 overall.  CUA is now 8-1 at home this season, with seven of the wins coming by way of sweep.

The Cardinals won the first two sets by identical 25-12 scores, before breezing through the third set 25-9.

Kelly Crimmins led the Cardinals on Friday with seven kills and three blocks, while Audrey Bizak totaled six kills and Kalen Backe added five.

Kristina Purcell and Ali Conkey were the team leaders in digs with eight apiece, while Claudia Jean and Katie Chefalas finished with five each.

Freshman Fallon Foster handed out 17 assists for the Cards, with Mariana Cruz totaling four.

CUA has a busy weekend ahead, beginning with three matches on Saturday at the Crusader Classic in Selinsgrove, Pa.  The Cardinals will face Pitt-Johnston at 1 p.m., Immaculata at 5 and Bryn Athyn at 7. 

On Sunday, CUA will take on Penn State-Behrend at 10 a.m. and New Jersey City at 2 p.m.
