CUA locks up No. 2 seed in conference tourney with win over Greyhounds
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – CUA wrapped up the second Landmark
Conference weekend on Sunday, and with a 3-1 win over Moravian, the
Cardinals have clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference
tournament. After dropping a five-set heartbreaker to Juniata
on Saturday, CUA battled back to pick up win No. 22 a day
later.
The Cardinals and Greyhounds split the first two sets by identical
25-23 scores, with CUA winning set number-one.
Tied at one, the Cardinals pulled out a 25-20 win in set three,
and then closed the match out with a 25-13 win in the fourth
set.
Leading the way for CUA was freshman Mariana Cruz with 39 assists
and 16 digs, while senior Claudia Jean finished with impressive
totals of 20 kills and 17 digs.
Bridget Kulesh added eight kills and Katie Chefalas totaled six
kills and nine digs.
Kristina Purcell finished with 18 digs and three different
Cardinals, Kelly Crimmins, Audrey Bizak and Cruz, had two
blocks.
Moravian’s Samantha Savite finished with 18 kills and five
digs, while Jesse Krasley totaled 24 digs and Kelly Brown handed
out 43 assists.
CUA will be back in action on Saturday, October 20 when the
Cardinals take on Shenandoah and Roanoke in Salem, Va.
