CUA selected third in Landmark Conference preseason poll

WASHINGTON – CUA has been selected third in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, it was announced on Tuesday.  The Cardinals received 38 points in the poll, with five-time defending champion Juniata selected first and Susquehanna picked second.

CUA went 25-9 a season ago, racing out to a 17-2 start, its best since 2001.  The Cardinals earned their straight Landmark Conference Tournament berth and won at least 20 matches for the third year in a row.

Head Coach Nagy Abdelrazek, who earned his 400th career victory last season, returns three All-Conference performers from a season ago, including Claudia Jean, Kristina Purcell and Kelly Crimmins.

Juniata topped the poll with 60 points and six first place votes, followed by Susquehanna with 41 points and CUA with 38.  Moravian was next in line with 27 points, while Scranton (22), Goucher (17) and USMMA (12) round out the poll.

CUA opens the 2012 season on Saturday, September 1 when the Cardinals face Stevenson (2 p.m.) and DeSales (4 p.m.) on the campus of Goucher College.  The Cards will open their home slate on Friday, September 7 with a pair of matches vs. Randolph and Methodist at the CUA Invitational.
