WASHINGTON - In the first Landmark Conference weekend of the season, the Catholic University women's volleyball team defeated Goucher and Scranton for a 2-1 finish in Selinsgrove, Pa., at Susquehanna.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, CUA beat Goucher 21-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-11. Statistically, Mary Paige Nesfeder tallied eight kills and three service aces, Mariana Cruz amassed 22 assists, Michelle Bouchard collected 28 digs and Kathryn Herrington totaled three solo blocks.
The second match of the day consisted of a three-set 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 loss to Juniata. Nesfeder finished with eight kills, Curz distributed 13 assists, Bouchard gathered seven digs and Cruz tallied two solo blocks.
Landmark conference action ended on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 win over Scranton. Nesfeder and Kalen Backe finished with double-figure kill outings, Nesfeder tallied 12 kills, as Backe amassed 11 kills. Cruz circulated 30 assists, Backe collected four service aces. Four Cardinals gathered double-figure dig numbers: Nesfeder (13), Cruz (12), Bouchard (12) and Backe (11). Backe concluded the match with two solo blocks.
The Cards host their first home match of the season on Monday, Oct. 7 with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Elizabethtown at the DuFour Athletic Center.
