WASHINGTON – The Catholic University women's volleyball team finished the two-day Knight's Fall Classic 3-1 for an overall 2013 record of 14-11.
The Neumann event welcomed Catholic, Penn State Behrend and Ursinus.
The Cards ended the first day of the Knight's Fall Classic undefeated.
The mighty black and red clinched the opening match against Penn State Behrend in five-sets. CUA won the first two sets, 25-17, 25-13. PSU evened the match by winning sets three and four, 25-18, 25-20, and the Cardinals won the race to eight and defeated PSU 15-5 in the deciding set.
Mary Paige Nesfeder, Bridget Kulesh and Kathryn Herrington finished with double-figure kill numbers. Nesfeder topped the squad with 13 kills, as Kulesh and Herrington tallied 10 kills apiece. Mariana Cruz circulated 39 assists to round out the offensive statistics. For a match double-doubles, Cruz and Nesfeder amassed 19 digs and 18 digs, respectively. Michelle Bouchard led the dig category, as she tallied 36 in the win. Audrey Bizak dominated the blocking game by assisting on five blocks and stopping four PSU attacks on her own.
CUA concluded the day with a three-set sweep of Rowan, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20.
Nesfeder collected 12 kills and two service aces, as Cruz amassed 21 assists. Bouchard, Cruz and Nesfeder finished with double-digit digging campaigns. Bouchard gathered 13, while Nesfeder and Cruz tallied 11 digs each. Herrington totaled seven blocks, while assisting on three.
CUA split the final day of play with a 3-0 loss to Franklin and Marshall 3-1 win over Ursinus.
In the 25-22, 25-22, 25-19, Nesfeder attributed eight kills to the game, as Cruz circulated 18 assists. Nesfeder earned two easy points with a pair of service aces, while Bouchard gathered 12 digs and Audrey Bizak added three solo blocks into the mix.
For the third win of the weekend, the Cards defeated Ursinus 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16. Nesfeder and Kulesh tallied 11 kills each, along with Cruz's 30 assists. Bouchard guided the win with 20 digs, as Nesfeder finished with 19 digs and Cruz gathered 13 digs. Bizak closed out the win with eight blocks.
