WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America head volleyball coach Nagy Abdelrazek announced the 2017 schedule for the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon. Catholic comes off a 26-win season, its seventh 20-win campaign in eight years, as well as the Cards' second-straight Landmark Conference Semifinals appearance.
Catholic begins its 2017 slate with a road invitational at Eastern Mennonite on September 1 and 2. It is one of four road tournament that the Cardinals will play in this season. The Cards will also travel to the Neumann Knights Invitational (9/15-16), the Swarthmore Invitational (10/6-7) and Wilkes Invite (10/20-21).
The Cardinals begin home play inside the DuFour Center with the annual CUA Guetle Invitational on September 8 and 9. The defending tournament champs welcome Wesley, Albright, Pittsburgh-Greensburg, Salisbury, William Peace, Rockford and Ursiuns to Brookland.
Catholic rounds out its nonconference slate with road matches at Washington College (9/13), Stevenson (9/23), St. Mary's (9/23), Mary Washington (10/4) and Gallaudet (10/11). Home games against non-league foes include Frostburg State (9/20), McDaniel (9/27), Shenandoah (10/17) and senior night against Marymount (10/25).
The Cards will play three Landmark Conference weekends in 2017 and hosts the second matchup.
Catholic first heads to Scranton to face the Royals and Susquehanna on Saturday, September 30, before hosting Goucher and Juniata on Saturday, October 14. League plays wraps in Towson, Md., as the Cardinals take on Elizabethtown and Moravian on Saturday, September 28.
The final Landmark weekend sets up the conference tournament with the semifinals set for Wednesday, November 1, before the championship match on Saturday, November 4.
