WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America volleyball team earned a strong win over Frostburg State, 3-2 (26-24, 15-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-10). The Cardinals got 16 kills each from seniors Maria Cristina Juelle and Amy O'Connor to win in five sets.
Juelle had four kills in the fifth and deciding set, while O'Connor slammed one home to make it 12-9 Catholic in the final frame before three-straight attacking errors by the Bobcats gave the Cards the game.
Juelle added four digs, two blocks, an assist and a service ace to her line while O'Connor chipped in three digs and two blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Isabelle Cooper also enjoyed a strong game with 12 kills as she hit an impressive .417 with two blocks.
Catholic and Frostburg wen 24-all in the first set but the Cardinals earned the extra-point win. The two teams traded sets all game long with the Cards stepping up late to earn the win.
The Cardinals head to Stevenson this Saturday and will take on the Mustangs as well as St. Mary's (Md.) in a two-game set in Owings Mills, Md.
