Cardinals finish as CAC runners-up
Catholic lost to Gallaudet in the CAC Championship Nov. 6, 4-15, 15-9, 6-15, 7-15. Liz Carden led the way for the Cardinals with 15 kills as Catholic posted its best conference finish since the 1994 championship season.
Conference Honors
Volleyball coach Nagy Abdelrazek, freshman setter Bridget Guetle and sophomore outside hitters Mary Ellen Ryan and Liz Carden were honored by the CAC.
Abdelrazek, who guided the Cardinals (24-16) to their finest record in five years, was named CAC Coach of the Year for a second time (1994). He led CUA to its first CAC championship game appearance since winning the conference title in 1994.
Guetle was named CAC Rookie of the Year. She led the Cardinals with 1,392 assists (9.60 apg), 58 service aces (.40 apg) and 547 digs (3.77 dpg).
Ryan was named first-team All-CAC. She paced the club in hitting percentage (.201) and was second in kills (359), service aces (54) and digs (438).
Carden earned second-team All-CAC status by leading CUA in kills (455) and kills per game (3.53). She was third in service aces (23) and digs (435).
"This year has been a turning point for the volleyball program at Catholic University," Abdelrazek said. "And Bridget, Liz and Mary Ellen, with their talent and leadership, have played a major role in taking the game to a higher level."
