Catholic to host CAC title game Saturday
Catholic University will host the Capital Athletic Conference championship game against Salisbury State on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. at the DuFour Center. The winner receives an automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Tournament.
A CUA victory would cap a great week for Coach Nagy Abdelrazek. His wife Elizabeth gave birth to their third daughter, Sara, on Friday at 5:45 a.m. at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md. Sara, who weighed 7 lbs., 7 oz., and Elizabeth are doing well.
The Cardinals (35-5), enjoying their finest season ever, are ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 20th in the nation. It is their first national ranking and highest regional ranking ever.
CUA defeated SSU (17-17) twice in late September in consecutive matches: 3-1 at Salisbury in the Sea Gull Invitational and 3-1 at DuFour. The Cardinals finished 7-0 in CAC regular season play; SSU was 5-2.
The Cards advanced to the CAC title game with wins against York (Pa.) and Mary Washington earlier this week. The Sea Gulls proceeded with wins against St. Mary's, 3-0, and at Marymount, 3-2.
