Catholic falls in NCAA Tournament opener
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Catholic, the four-seed in the Great Lakes region, dropped a 3-0 decision to fifth-seeded Ohio Northern in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. Game scores were 21-30, 24-30, and 15-30. The game was played at the campus of Wittenberg University. The Cardinals end the season 33-8.

Freshman Tory Neyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) led the Cardinals with 12 kills and added 10 digs. Teammate Anji Wall (Daphne, Ala./McGill Toolen) chipped in 10 kills and seven digs.

Senior Bridget Guetle (Cincinnati, Ohio/St.Ursula Academy) dished out 35 assists and had 11 digs.

Catholic, who reached the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year, could not seem to find a rhythm early in the match as in the first game, the Polar Bears (23-9) kept a seven-point cushion throughout. But in the second set Catholic never trailed by less than five points.

Ohio Northern, which is out of the Ohio Athletic Conference, was led by Tara Anderson who pounded out a game-high 20 kills and teammate Hannah Kanuckel added 16 kills.

The Cardinals celebrate a point vs. Ohio Northern in a first-round NCAA Tournament game.

Catholic places three on All-CAC first team
WASHINGTON - Catholic was well represented on the 2002 Capital Athletic Conference All-CAC Volleyball Teams as the Cardinals placed three members on the first team.Senior Bridget Guetle (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy), and juniors Kathleen McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) and Anji Wall (Daphne, Ala./McGill Toolen) were honored.

Guetle, a senior setter and three time first-team selection, led the conference in assists (11.27 apg) and tied for first on the team in digs (3.97 dpg). She was three kills shy of registering a triple double against Salisbury on Sept. 14 (7 kills, 50 assists, 13 digs).

McGlynn, a junior middle hitter, leads the squad in hitting percentage (.280) and has 10 or more games with five or more blocks. A second-team selection a year go, McGlynn missed some time early in the season with an ankle injury, but rebounded with a solid conference tournament, where she totaled 26 kills and eight blocks in three matches.

Wall, the league leader in kills per game (4.12), has posted five games with 20 or more kills, including a team-high 25 kills vs. Widener on Sept. 14. The junior outside hitter has been named the CAC Player of the Week twice this season and named to all tournament teams in the Richard Stockton and CUA Invitationals.
