Cardinals Win One at Gallaudet Tourney
WASHINGTON - Catholic University volleyball (13-13) played at Gallaudet's tournament over the weekend. The Cardinals started strong the on second day of the tournament against Allegheny. Whitney Dachelet (Aniston, Ala./Donoho) led the effort with 11 kills in that game. The Cardinals came close to other victories, but ended the tournament 1-3.
On Friday in the first match against Christopher Newport, CUA lost in three games 30-24, 31-29, 30-21. Kathryn Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) had a team-high eight kills in 17 attempts. Dachelet added six kills for the match.
In Friday's second match the Cards lost by a heartbreaking 30-27, 30-27, 30-28 to SUNY-Oneonta. Playing without one of the Cardinals' top hitters, Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) three players stepped up. Dachelet led the squad with 11 kills and Fisher and Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) both had six.
CUA's win over Allegheny was by a score of 30-21, 30-25 and 30-26. Besides Dachelet's 11 kills, Fox also had a good game adding ten. Libero Cathleen Carroll (Ann Arbor, Mich./A.A. Pioneer) contributed a strong effort in the back row with 31 digs.
The final match of the tournament was a four-game loss to Penn State Behrand. Jessica Schoenfeld (West Windsor, N.J./Plainsboro) led the Cardinals with 15 kills and Dachelet had 14. Emily McGlynn's (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) 39 kills showed her leadership in the middle of the court.
CUA will take on nationally-ranked Emory on Monday at the DuFour Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
