CUA Goes 2-2 At Battlefield Classic

Senior Whitney Dachelet notches her 100th kill of the season

GETTYSBURG, Md. (Sept. 10, 2006) - CUA volleyball (4-4) competed at the Battlefield Classic this Friday and Saturday posting a 2-2 record in its second tournament of the season.  Senior hitter Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) hit her 100th kill of 2006 in the team's final game of the tournament.

In Friday's first match against Moravian, CUA dropped the first game 30-24, but came back to win the next three.  Dachelet had 24 kills in the match and Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) added 19.  The Cardinals took the second game 30-22 and pulled off a close 31-29 victory in game three.  The score of the fourth game was 30-24 and got CUA the win.

The second match of the day was against Washington College.  The Cardinals won in three games 30-20, 30-23, and 30-24.  Nassib led all hitters with 11 kills and Kathryn Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) added seven.  Setter Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) had 26 assists in the match.

Saturday was not as smooth for the Cards as the team dropped both matches of the day.  In the first contest  against Westminster, CUA lost in three games 30-27, 30-21 and 30-20.  Dachelet notched 13 kills, while Nassib and Fischer each had seven.  McGlynn had a good day behind the endline with three aces.

The final match of the classic was a five-game battle against New Jersey City.  CUA won the first game 30-26 with the team accounting for nine kills.  Game two and three were not as positive with the Cardinals falling 30-22 and 30-25.  CUA came back in the fourth game to win 30-27 with Nassib notching 11 kills in the game.  In the final game of the day, CUA fell 15-8 but Dachelet did get her 100th kill.

The volleyball squad will host their first home match this Tuesday against Marymount at the Dufour Center beginning at 7:00 p.m.
