Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Guetle Invitational

Nassib and McGlynn make all-tournament squad

WASHINGTON, D.C. - CUA volleyball (6-6) hosted its Guetle Invitational this Saturday at the DuFour Center.  The team went 2-1 against opponents Trinity (D.C.), Messiah and Mary Washington.  Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) were both named to the Guetle All-Tournament team.

In the first match , CUA handily beat its neighbor Trinity 30-12, 30-13 and 30-32.  Kaitlin Palmieri (Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the hitters with 13 kills and Kim Ray (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) added nine.  Kelly Maley (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) notched 25 assists for the victory.

The second game of the day was against CAC-rival Mary Washington but considered non-conference.  UMW beat the Cards in four games 3-1.  CUA managed to win the second 30-28 but could not nab any more.  Senior Whitney Dachelet (Aniston, Ala./Donoho) had a team-high 13 kills and McGlynn managed 40 assists.  Junior Cathleen Carroll (Ann Arbor, Mich./A.A. Pioneer) had a good day in the back row with 27 digs.

The final match of the day, CUA took down Messiah in three games 30-26, 30-27 and 30-26.  Dachelet had 18 kills and Nassib added seven.  McGlynn had a team-high 37 assists while Nassib worked on defense with 21 digs.

The Cardinals will continue their home stand with a conference game against Salisbury on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
