CUA wins in three games to get first CAC victory
WASHINGTON - Catholic University volleyball (7-6, 1-1 CAC) dominated the Salisbury Sea Gulls (9-5, 1-1 CAC) Wednesday evening in a 3-0 victory marking their first is conference play. The Cardinals handily beat Salisbury 30-20, 30-13 and 30-27. Even a run near the end of the third game was not enough to overcome CUA's powerful front line.
The match began back and forth but the Cardinals soon took control and picked up the tempo. Senior captain Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) scored 15 total kills for the Cards and freshman hitter Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added thirteen to form a dominant front.
In the second game, setter Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) was on fire from behind the end line as she started out serving ten points in a row to force the Sea Gulls into a 10-0 hole, the run included one ace.
The final game was a see saw match between the teams. The lead changed over and over but CUA was able to move gain an advantage two thirds of the way through. A late surge by Salisbury had the Cardinals on their heels, but CUA recovered and was able to sneak out the win 30-27.
On the defensive end, McGlynn led the Cards with 19 digs while Nassib contributed 16.
The Cardinals will meet the Sea Gulls again this weekend at the Salisbury Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
