Cardinals Fight Off Bobcats
CUA takes all three games to get back to even
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University volleyball (9-9, 1-1 CAC) held off the Frostburg State Bobcats (6-11) in three games Tuesday evening at the DuFour Center to move back to even for the season. A tough Bobcat squad continuously beat themselves and the Cards were able to capitalize on the errors.
CUA won the first game 30-24 after Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) gave the team a nice cushion with her impressive serving. The junior setter ran a string of six straight points including one ace to get the Cardinals off to a good start.
The second and third games were both nail-biters as the lead see-sawed back and forth. During the second game, it looked as though Frostburg had gained momentum after some attack and ball handling errors by the Cardinals. Instead of falling apart CUA regrouped just as the Bobcats began to face miscues of their own, especially on timely serves. Catholic University pulled out the win 30-28.
In the third, FSU started off strong but again crumbled as the CUA front line dominated the hitting. After going down by four points at one point, CUA took over and easily won the game 30-22.
Freshman Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the hitters with 15 kills and senior Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) added 11, many coming during the important third game. McGlynn had 34 assists in the match.
The Cardinals will travel to York, Pa. on Thursday for a conference match against the Spartans beginning at 7:00 p.m.
