Volleyball Falls in Close Match To York

Volleyball Falls in Close Match To York

York, Pa. - CUA Volleyball (9-10, 1-2 CAC) dropped a close 3-2 match to York (Pa.) College (14-4, 2-1 CAC) Thursday evening.  The Cardinals lost the first game but came back to make it 2-1 before falling in the final games.

The Cards came out sluggish in the first game losing 30-17.  The team only mustered four kills and had seven attack errors.

In the second, the Cardinals finally got going with senior Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) notching six kills.  Freshman Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) added four and sophomore Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) helped out with three.  The Cards won the game 30-19 and looked to be on the right track.

The third game began with CUA dominating the Spartans.  Led by Nassib in the front, the Cards jumped out to a 28-15 lead.  Needing just two points to win, CUA fell apart and allowed the Spartans to claw their way back into the game.  The Cardinals won 30-25 but their late break-down didn't bode well for the remainder of the match.

York used the momentum from the end of the third to take the fourth game 30-22.  The tiebreaker to 15 points was also a poor showing for the Cards who managed just three kills to lose 15-10.

Nassib and Dachelet both had twelve kills and setter Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) recorded 34 assists.  Nassib looked good on defense with a team-high 22 digs.

CUA will play at Villa Julie this Saturday.  The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
