CUA Defeats Washington and Villa Julie
Nassib leads Cards in both matches
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - After a tough loss to Randolph-Macon on Monday, the Catholic University volleyball team (11-8) regrouped to go 2-0 on Saturday at Washington College. The Cards handily beat Villa Julie (12-6) and the host Sailors (6-10) to improve to 11-8 for the season. CUA lost just one game the entire day on its way to winning six of its last seven matches.
The Cards started out with Villa Julie and were forced to work for their games. CUA won in three 30-28, 30-26 and 30-23. Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) led the team in kills with 15 as well as one block assist. The outside hitter also had 15 digs in the game. Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) put together an all-around solid performance with 13 kills, one solo block, four block assists and a pair of service aces. Liz Koruda (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) rounded out those in double digits with 10 kills for the match. Setter and team captain Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) continued her leadership with 40 assists.
In the second game the Cards were forced to go to four games after dropping the second. CUA eventually got the win 30-22, 27-30, 30-20 and 30-19. Once again Nassib was the spark up front with 16 kills, an ace, a block and 13 digs. Fox also played well with 14 kills and two blocks. McGlynn had 43 assists in the match but the big story was her six aces which helped CUA to the victory.
The Cardinals will go to Hood College on Monday for a 7 p.m. contest with the Blazers. CUA has already defeated Hood twice this season.
