Moravian Tops CUA
BETHLEHEM, PA - The fourth seeded Moravian College women's volleyball team posted a 24-26, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 victory over fifth seeded The Catholic University of America in the first round of the 2008 Landmark Conference Tournament in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals were the hot team, leading for almost the entire first set. Moravian had the set tied three times before taking a brief 23-22 lead. Catholic responded with four of the next five points for the win. The Cardinals held leads in the other three sets before the Greyhounds took control of each one midway through the set.
Senior middle hitter Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, PA/Merion Mercy HS) led Catholic with eight kills, 11 digs and three blocks while freshman outside hitter Katina Baccetti (San Francisco, CA/Sacred Heart Cathedral HS) added seven kills and 12 digs. Freshman middle hitter Molly Owen (Floral Park, NY/Kellenberg Memorial HS) also had seven kills for the Cardinals to go with two blocks while junior middle hitter Lynn Brown (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti HS) added six kills.
Junior outside hitter Kim Ray (Chicago, IL/Regina Dominican HS) had 16 digs, six kills and two service aces while sophomore setter Katie Norberg (Grasonville, MD/St. Mary's HS) had a team high 20 assists to go along with 11 digs and two kills. Freshman libero Gabrielle Dipasquantonio (Middletown, DE/St. Mark's HS) had a match high 27 digs for the Cardinals.
