Volleyball Dominates USMMA, 3-0


WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America volleyball team enjoyed a highly successful weekend, hosting and going undefeated in the 2009 Landmark Conference Round Robin. The Cardinals went 3-0 in the tournament, and now stand in 3rd place in the conference.

Game three featured a battle between Catholic University and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. CUA came out on top of the match, winning 25-18, 25-11, and 25-16.  In set one, Claudia Jean (San Juan, P.R. /Academia Maria Reina) and Alex Min-Tun (San Jose, Calif./Notre Dame) led the Cardinal offense with six and five kills apiece, respectively. Michaela Carroll (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned 25 set assists in the victory, while teammate Kristina Purcell (Springfield, Pa./Merian Mercy) finished with 11 digs.  

The Cards have now earned a spot in the Landmark Conference Championships, and will face USMMA at home on November 4th. The next scheduled match will be at home on Wednesday, October 21st at 7 p.m., against Trinity College.
