Volleyball Earns Two Wins at Stevenson Tournament


STEVENSON, Md.- The CUA volleyball team went 3-2 this weekend in games against Virginia Wesleyan, Ursinus, and Stevenson. The Cardinals now improve to 6-2 on the year.

Catholic University battled Va. Wesleyan in game one, but were upset by their opponent 3-0. Claudia Jean (San Juan, P.R. /Academia Maria Reina) and Alex Min-Tun (San Jose, Calif./Notre Dame) both led the Cards with six kills apiece, while teammate Michaela Carroll (Amityville, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) earned 18 assists. Kristina Purcell (Springfield, Pa./Merian Mercy) finished with 18 digs in the contest.

In game two, the Cardinals bounced back to overcome Ursinus in a grueling five set match. Kim Ray (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) and Lynn Brown (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) each finished with six kills each, while Purcell contributed an outstanding 23 digs. Carroll also garnered 37 assists in the victory.

The Red and Black finished the tournament with a victory over home-standing Stevenson University. Brown tallied 12 kills, while Purcell chipped in 14 digs. Carroll finished the night with a commendable 33 assists.

CUA will recturn to action on Tuesday, September 15th, as they travel to Washington College for a 7 p.m., match up.
