Volleyball Sweeps Three at Home
WASHINGTON-- The CUA women's volleyball team continued to dominate the competition, winning three matches over the weekend.
In the first match of the day, the Cardinals took on Trinity College. CUA won the first set 25-4, and then continued its dominance in second set 25-2, the team then finished the match in the third set by a score of 25-13. Katie Chefalas led the Cardinals with nine kills.
In their second match, the Cardinals faced off against Hood College continuing the offensive pressure. They defeated Hood in three sets, 25-13, 25-8 and 25-7.
In the final match of the day, the Cardinals won an exciting four set match against Marymount University. This was the second meeting of the two teams this season, the Cardinals have only dropped one set to the Saints. The Cardinals were led Kim Ray and Lynn Brown who each had eleven kills in the match.
After the Cardinals swept their three games, the All-Tournament team was announced. CUA freshman Kristina Purcell was selected for her outstanding defensive play, especially in the second match against Marymount. Hood College placed two players on the team, Chelsea Weaver and Kristina Hawkins. Trinity also placed two players on the team, Ellen Bethea and Venise Rita De Etoulem. Rounding out the all-tournament team was Marymount's Christina La Vigna.
The Cardinals improved to 11-2 on the season and are currently riding a seven-match win streak. On Friday, Sept 25, the team will venture to Elizabethtown, Pa. to compete in the Blue Jay Classic facing Wesley College in the opening match.
