Jean named Landmark Conference Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – Following a weekend in which she helped lead CUA to a perfect 4-0 showing and the championship of the Messiah College Tournament, sophomore Claudia Jean was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday.  Jean received All-Tournament Team accolades for her performance as well.

In four matches over the weekend, Jean totaled 62 kills, 60 digs, five blocks and five aces.  She reached double-figures in kills in all four contests and double-figures in digs in three.

In CUA’s opening match vs. Messiah, Jean registered a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs.  She then backed that performance up with a weekend-best 20 kills to go along with 12 digs vs. Misericordia.

In Saturday’s action, Jean began the day with 16 kills and six digs against Penn State-Berks before registering 13 kills and 23 digs in a win over Scranton.

Jean averaged 4.43 kills and 4.82 points over the four matches while hitting .246.

With her selection to the All-Tournament Team, it marked the fourth time this season that the sophomore has achieved that distinction.

Jean and the Cardinals return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Scranton in the opening round of the 2010 Landmark Conference Tournament.  Match time from inside the DuFour Center is slated for 7:00 and all of the action will be shown live on cuacardinals.com.
